Glaze Basics:  The Ingredients
A Workshop by
Chic Lotz

In this one day workshop students will learn what makes a glaze at any firing temperature.  Via a PowerPoint lecture, Chic creates her color-coded chart of ingredients so you can see how varying the ratios of 3 major glaze components affects stability, color, firing temperature, glaze fit and glaze surface.  Her chart shows the "big picture" of glaze ingredient relationships.  Students will play several glaze games to reinforce learned concepts.  Bring a recipe for analysis.

Chic Lotz, artist and teacher, has worked with clay for over 30 years. She directed the Ceramics Department at the Marietta Parks and Recreation in Atlanta, GA , owned her own ceramics school, The Potter's Wheel, in Grass Valley, CA and exhibited in galleries around the country. Chic presented a lecture on "Glaze Basics" for high school teachers at the National Ceramic Educators Conference (NCECA K-12 Forum) in 2007. More information about Chic can be found on her website at http://www.potterypoet.com/
