SPACE AVAILABLE ON A FIRST COME - FIRST SERVED BASIS. Make yourself welcome at
Ruby’s by following the rules & procedures detailed below:
COMMUNITY AREAS
must be shared equally with others. Don’t hog or clutter the
workroom, keep your work and tools consolidated, there are shelves to store
tools and clay in the recycle room labeled ‘drop in’. Trimmed work should be
placed behind the gas kilns in the kiln room. Bisqued work will be placed on the
shelves opposite community bisque shelves marked ‘drop in bisque’ work left for
more than 2 weeks is subject to removal. Glazes work will be fired in the
community firing and if you label it you will find it on the community glaze
fire shelves in the kiln room.
EQUIPMENT should
only be used if you are familiar with their operation. Don’t use the slab roller
or the extruder unless you know how. Ask the manager for help.
PRECAUTIONS: Dust
from clay and glaze contains particulate silica that is injurious to health.
Long term exposure can cause silicosis, a chronic blockage of the lungs similar
to emphysema. If you create dust, you will forfeit your deposit. This means no
sanding, sweeping, blowing, flipping the canvas used with the slab roller, or
whatever. Glazes may also contain other hazardous elements, so don’t eat or
drink while glazing and avoid skin contact. The Studio glazes contain no lead
and are safe for food.
CLEAN UP with a
sponge, a mop, or spray down dry scrap and scoop up. PLEASE DO NOT CREATE
DUST! Everyone is required to wipe down surfaces and to mop the floor
around their wheel or work table before leaving. Tools and sponges used with
glazes marked with a red X require special clean up: use buckets of standing
water.
LABEL your work to be left in damp
room with your name, phone #, date and “drop-in”.
Trimmed work should also be labeled with a “D”on the base of your pot. Unlabeled
work may be subject to removal or inspection. If you don’t want your work
disturbed, then label it!
ACTIVITY
- You are considered "inactive"
in the drop-in program if it has been over 6 weeks from your last session. At
that time Ruby's will send back your deposit, less any outstanding fees you may
owe, to the address you specified. To reactivate your activity all you need to
do is resubmit your deposit at the beginning of a new session. You can also
designate yourself as "inactive" at any time after your work is fully completed
at the studio. Be aware that once you are inactive you should not use the studio
for storage of any kind, and any work or tools left are in danger of being
purged.
Because of space constraints, drop-ins must limit their production to approximately 8 medium size thrown or hand built pieces, or sculpture, per month, that do not exceed 12” in any one dimension. If you pay for three sessions in a month, firing for the stated amount of work is included with the drop-in fee. Otherwise there is a charge per piece for the glaze firing: $1 to $2 for small to medium size work and up to $10 for a cubic foot. The use of studio glazes is included. You must supply your own tools and clay. Both are available for sale at the studio.
CLAY PURCHASED OUTSIDE THE STUDIO IS NOT ALLOWED!!!
The management is not responsible for lost and/or
damaged work, tools or materials. Work left over thirty days is subject to
removal.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION
