Cynthia Coppi

I pursued a course of
study in Sculpture and Ceramics at San Francisco State University via night
classes, which ran for about 15 years from 1970 on. I have also learned many
useful techniques taking various classes at Ruby's over the years.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My main focus is an ever increasing interest in portraying animals in the
wild and species that are becoming or have become endangered, the wolf being one
of my favorites. I attempt to portray their souls and spirit through drawings
on the clay body and also creating larger sculptures of them. I also have
created work showing domestic animals.
Another side of my work is the expression of my Italian heritage through
portrayals of food, wine and drinking and eating, drawn on kitchen tiles. Fruit
and flowers are also a favorite subject and I enjoy creating platters showing
fruit displays and garden scenes.
I enjoy creating works done in Raku, black pottery and in the electric
kiln.
